Hello!
Preparing to attend college is an exciting time in your life, and we are pleased that you are considering the University of Michigan. Information on this website will assist you in making this important decision, whether you will be an entering freshman or a transfer student. | In 2007-2008, U-M undergraduates received over $251 million in financial aid--grants, loans, and Work-Study--most of it awarded on the basis of financial need.
The University is committed to meeting the demonstrated financial need of undergraduate students who are Michigan residents. While we are not able to make this commitment to nonresident students (and, in some instances, those studying abroad), we can provide information about other sources of financial aid that will help with college costs. We suggest that nonresident students begin the financial aid application process as early as possible to benefit from all available funding opportunities.
There are many reasons to choose one college over another and we'd like to think that cost is the least significant. However, we know that cost, and therefore financial assistance, are sometimes crucial to the decision-making process. The staff members of the Office of Financial Aid want to assist you and your family in any way possible as you sort through the maze of financial aid programs and budgeting issues. Look at the information we provide on our website, including Applying for Financial Aid and Comparing Financial Aid Offers from Different Schools. And please do not hesitate to contact us; we can be reached by phone, email, or in person. We hope you discover what we already know--Michigan is the right place for you. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
Sincerely,
Pamela W. Fowler, Executive Director Office of Financial Aid
